99-Year-Old World War II Vet Graduates High School Alongside His Great-Granddaughter 2

At the age of 99, Charles Leuzzi made headlines when he recently graduated from high school alongside his great-granddaughter, Alexandra.

While many may think it’s an ordinary feat to graduate from high school, what makes this achievement extraordinary is that Charles had started his journey towards getting a diploma more than eight decades ago.

Growing up in Philadelphia during the Great Depression, Charles was unable to finish high school due to financial constraints. Instead, he had to drop out and work hard to support his family. At just 17 years old, he joined the United States Navy and served during World War II, witnessing the horrors and sacrifices of war.

After returning home from the war, Charles continued to work and provide for his family. Despite not having a high school diploma, he never let that hold him back in life. He worked as an electrician, eventually starting his own business and becoming successful in his field.

But despite all his accomplishments, there was always a lingering feeling of regret for not being able to finish high school. So when Charles’s granddaughter, Alexandra’s mother, mentioned that she was going back to school to get her GED, Charles decided it was time for him to do the same.

At 99 years old, Charles enrolled in an adult education program at Northampton Area High School in Pennsylvania. He attended classes twice a week for four months, studying hard and completing the coursework just like any other student. And in June 2018, Charles finally received his high school diploma, graduating with honors.

But what made this moment even more special was that Alexandra, Charles’s great-granddaughter, had also enrolled in the same program and was set to graduate alongside him. The two became study partners and supported each other throughout their journey towards getting their diplomas.

In an interview with local news station WFMZ, Charles said, “It feels like I’m a champ again. Like I was in the ring getting my hand raised.”

For Alexandra, it was an honor to graduate alongside her great-grandfather and share this special moment with him. She hopes that their story will inspire others to never give up on their dreams, no matter how long it may take.

Charles’s perseverance and determination to finally get his high school diploma at the age of 99 is a testament to his resilience and tenacity. He proves that it’s never too late to achieve your goals and that age should never be a barrier. His journey serves as an inspiration for people of all ages to continue learning and growing throughout their lives.

As for what’s next for Charles, he plans on taking a break from school for now but has expressed interest in possibly pursuing a college degree. And with his never-give-up attitude, there’s no doubt that he will achieve whatever he sets his mind to.
